TI launches an enhanced isolator with an integrated power supply with both high efficiency and low radiation
TI (TI) has recently launched a new single chip enhanced isolator with an integrated power supply, which is 80% more efficient than existing integrated devices. With more efficient power transmission, lower radiation emission and higher immunity, the new enhanced isolator can enable the industrial system to run reliably. These industrial systems include factory automation, power grid infrastructure, motor control, isolated power supply, and testing and measuring equipment.

The main features and advantages of ISOW7841
The efficiency is increased by 80%: with the lower power consumption of the industry, ISOW7841 reduces the device working temperature by 40 degrees. Compared with other integrated solutions, it can achieve higher power delivery, larger channel number and longer system life.
Single chip enhanced isolation power supply, data transmission rate up to 100 Mbps: in a single package, enhanced isolation and DC/DC conversion can minimize the cost and space of PCB, thus simplifying the design of multi-channel system. The operating voltage of 1kVrms helps to improve the reliability and life of the system. ISOW7841 supports the input voltage range of 3V to 5.5V and provides the best 0.65W output power in the industry.
The radiation emission level is less than 10 dB: ISOW7841 can improve the integrity of the system signal by reducing the system noise and providing strong electromagnetic compatibility, so as to meet the requirements of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61000-4-x electrostatic discharge and electrical fast transient event standard. In addition, the enhanced isolator has a higher disturbance in the market and can reduce the impact of noise and high voltage events on industrial equipment.
The ISOW7841 enhanced isolator has three forward / reverse channel configurations. It is the first device in ISOW78xx series, and is expected to launch several devices later in 2017. These new devices will be added to the TI isolation product series to help achieve higher isolation levels, reliability, disturbance resistance and performance.
The tools and support needed to speed up the design
The designer can use ISOW7841 evaluation module (ISOW7841EVM) to quickly and easily evaluate the new enhanced isolator, and the evaluation module can now be purchased from TI store and authorized distributor. For isolated RS-485 and RS-232, engineers can also use integrated signal and power reference design for fast start system design. In addition, another reference design can be used to help integrate enhanced isolation and power in industrial grid design.
Encapsulation and supply
The ISOW7841 enhanced isolator with integrated power can now be purchased by the TI store and authorized distributor. The device uses a 16 pin small shape integrated circuit (SOIC) wide body package, which has low fault safety and high fault safety configuration.
